A ticketing-first website for an Austin improv theater

A digital home as entertaining as the shows
ComedySportz Austin is a member of the CSz Worldwide network — short-form competitive improv, family-friendly, with a schedule of public shows, private bookings, and corporate workshops. The previous web presence was holding the venue back: tickets sold through a separate platform, the schedule lagged the actual calendar, and the homepage didn't capture any of the energy a live improv venue actually has.
We rebuilt the site as the front door, the box office, and the brand voice all in one place — with the booking automation behind it so the team can keep doing improv instead of managing spreadsheets.
At a glance
- Launched: July 2024
- Stack: Webflow + integrated ticketing
- Audiences: Public showgoers, private/corporate clients, prospective performers, CSz Worldwide partners
- Services delivered: Web design, web development, ticketing integration, calendar automation, copy and tone, ongoing support
The challenge: a live venue with a static website
ComedySportz's old setup had three problems that compounded each other:
- Schedule lag. The website's "upcoming shows" section was edited by hand, so it lagged the actual calendar by days at a time. Patrons checking the site on a Wednesday for a Friday show didn't always get accurate information.
- Disjointed ticketing. Buying a seat meant clicking out to a third-party platform, which broke the brand experience and dropped a meaningful share of would-be buyers.
- Tone gap. A comedy venue with a 40-year franchise history and a roomful of nightly laughter shouldn't look like a generic event site. The old visual language didn't carry any of the comedic identity.
The solution: dynamic calendar, integrated ticketing, on-brand voice
Dynamic homepage, calendar that's actually current
The new homepage lives off a connected event calendar — color-coded by show type, intuitive at a glance, and never out of sync with the ticketing backend. When the schedule changes, the homepage changes. When a showtime sells out, the page reflects it.
Seat selection and ticket purchase in flow
Ticket purchase happens on-site, with seat selection integrated into the same checkout. The customer never leaves the brand experience, and the venue gets clean attribution for every conversion.
Multiple offerings, separately surfaced
Public shows, private bookings, team-building workshops, and corporate events each get their own pathway and CTA — because they're sold to different audiences with different decision cycles. The site reads as a menu, not as a marketing brochure.
History, FAQ, and the network
A dedicated history page tells the franchise's story since the 1980s. The FAQ keeps the comedic tone the rest of the site sets. Links out to CSz Worldwide partners give the venue's national network its proper place. The result is a site that captures the entertainment value of ComedySportz shows — not just the transaction.
Mobile-responsive, fast, easy to update
Most patrons are deciding on a phone, often on the way to dinner. The Webflow build is mobile-first, fast, and easy for the venue's marketing team to update — including the kind of quick copy changes that a live venue actually needs (tonight's lineup, surprise guests, weather closures).
The outcome
The site does both jobs a venue website needs to do: it sells tickets without making people work for it, and it sets the comedic tone the live show is going to deliver on. The team can update the schedule in real time, the audience gets a current calendar, and the brand experience is consistent from the homepage to the seat in row C.
We crafted a digital experience that captures the very essence of ComedySportz Austin — an extension of the live brand, not just a transactional store.
